MECOOL M8S PRO TV Box Review
This is a small device that will be easily hidden among your other electronic peripherals connected to your television. This Kodi box measures 4.02 x 4.02 x 0.83 inches in diameter.
The MECOOL M8S PRO TV Box remote is equipped with a learning system so you can pair it with your television and use the same remote for both devices at once. It also comes with some handy buttons such as browser, home, mute, delete, and volume. The typical mouse toggle is also present on this remote as well.
As with most Android TV Boxes, I suggest using a Bluetooth remote which will enhance the responsiveness and make it easier to type with. The Rii I8 Mini Bluetooth Wireless Touchpad Keyboard With Mouse is my favorite remote for Kodi boxes and it works well with the MECOOL M8S PRO TV Box as well.
This is a powerful device and rightfully so due to its strong processor and DDR4 RAM. The MECOOL M8S PRO TV Box comes equipped with an Amlogic S912 2.0GHz Octa-Core Processor which handles 4K Ultra HD with no problems.
It also sports 3G of DDR4 RAM memory, which is a nice upgrade from the typical DDR3 in most Android boxes. By implementing DDR4 RAM, the capacity will increase by 300% and power consumption will reduce by 30% compared to DDR3. The 3G RAM also helps tremendously with Kodi buffering since it can cache to available memory on the device, when setup properly.
Another nice features is that the MECOOL M8S PRO TV Box comes with Android 7.1 Nougat, which is the latest and greatest operating system by Google.
The MECOOL M8S PRO TV Box user interface is easy to use and provides a nice customization option, allowing you to add your favorite apps to the home screen.
Kodi media center is not loaded by default on the system. But, if you go to the Apps page, you have the option of installing “TV Center” which is a fork of Kodi and once installed, it includes many of the popular addons.
Wireless download speed for this Android TV Box was 65.33 Mbps and upload speed was 26.32 Mbps. When the device was connected directly to the router with a CAT 5 cable, download speed was 93.86 Mbps and upload speed was 24.85 Mbps.

Yes, I would definitely use the MECOOL M8S PRO TV Box as my main Kodi box within my home network. I like the ease of use that the user interface provides and I also like the power and latest Android 7.1 operating system which comes installed.

ReplyDeleteI have a MECOOL M8S PRO TV Box. As far as Android boxes, this is one of the best in terms of performance. It helps to have 3GB of RAM, it reduces lag and sluggish response of most other boxes. However, I have three problems with this box:
ReplyDelete- First, the sleep mode. There is no sleep mode on this box. The box powers off when pressing the remote button and even though you configure it to sleep, the LED turns orange, but next time you wake up the box... well, you can't wake it up because you need to press the power button to turn it on and then it will boot up rather than wake up from sleep.
- Second, it seems the remote control codes are very sloppy as they interfere with multiple other devices I have. I have an HDMI switch that will perform other functions if I press the left arrow, volume control or the power key. The remote also turns on my Christmas lights! No other remote I have can do this. This is a huge problem because I have no way of preventing unwanted commands controlling something else unless I remove my other items from the room.
- Third, the front of the box has a giant bright LED that turns bright blue when ON and bright orange when OFF. This may be an issue if you keep this box in your bedroom as it will work as a bright night light and illuminate your bedroom at 3AM. I put this issue at the bottom of my list because I can easily use some electrical tape and block the light.
